New information about Annie McCarrick, the American missing in Ireland since 1993, that is being published in an upcoming edition of an Irish magazine are quickly being dismissed by gardai.

Annie McCarrick, a native of New York who moved to Ireland after studying there, went missing in 1993 when she was just 26 years old. Her last known whereabouts were that she took a bus to Enniskerry in Co Wicklow.

McCarrick was the focus of an intensive garda search, and was included in the Garda's Operation Trace, but she nor her remains were never found, leaving the Irish crime so far unsolved.

The Evening Herald reports that Dublin’s Best magazine is running an interview with a sexual predator who has contradicted some earlier theories regarding McCarrick’s location.

The magazine’s editor, David Elio Malocco, claims he spoke with a sexual predator who was in contact with the person who claimed to kidnap, rape and murder McCarrick two years after her disappearance.

Malocco said he was contacted by a person who put him in touch with the interviewee.

This information is quickly being dismissed by gardai who have said, “We won’t be commenting on an article we haven’t seen.” The magazine is set to hit Irish newsstands on March 1st.

Dublin’s Best editor Malocco, who conducted the interview, was sentenced to five years in jail in the 1990s for defrauding the Irish Press Group, but who is now a writer and film director. He is due to publish a new book, ‘Serial Sex Killers - The Psychology of Sexual Predators’ shortly.

The Herald also reports that a separate source said “We don't give huge credence to it.”
