Dublin’s famed Croke Park will play host to an American collegiate football game in 2014, confirmed the Irish Times on Tuesday July 10th.
The Irish Times reported that more details are expected to emerge as Penn State and the University of Central Florida are set to meet in the coming days.
The Orlando Sentinel reported that the exact date of the 2014 Penn State - UCF matchup will be announced on Sunday, July 14th.
In September 2012, Dublin’s other sporting venue Aviva Stadium hosted the football season opener for the University of Notre Dame against the US Navy.
With Croke Park confirming it will host a Penn State and UCF game in 2014, other popular American universities are reportedly joining in on the opportunity to kick-off in the Emerald Isle.
The Score reports that Alabama, the reigning college football champions in the US, Boston College and Notre Dame are all being considered for potential games at Dublin’s Croke Park. However, no plans have been laid out yet.
Reports say that Croke Park is interested in developing a five-year plan to host US football games in 2014, 2016 and 2018.
