Katie Taylor is boxing’s new million dollar baby after her stunning gold medal success at the London Olympics.

Ireland’s golden girl will have her pick of high profile sponsors and commercial offers after ruling the ring at the Games.

Her Olympic gold medal has only added to her financial clout after winning four World and five European titles.

The Bray girl currently enjoys a $50,000 grant from the Irish Sports Council.

She is also sponsored by Sky Sports, Adidas, Toyota, Lucozade Sport, and P&G, with more to come after putting women’s boxing on the map.

Irish marketing expert Michael O’Keeffe, managing director of Pembroke Communications, told the Irish Sun: “Katie is by far and away the most marketable Irish sportsperson right now.

“Companies will be falling over themselves to work with her. Katie’s popularity is going to go through the roof.

“She has completely captured the nation. But she is also a global star now because this was the first female boxing event at the Olympics.

“Rugby star Brian O’Driscoll and golfer Rory McIlroy are already well established globally.

“Katie is right up there with them after winning Olympic gold. There will be an immediate financial benefit with medal bonuses written into the contracts of her current sponsors.

“But there will be so much more to come. I would say Katie’s earning potential is €500,000 a year. She deserves it.”

As Katie prepares to return home in triumph with the Irish team on Monday, O’Keeffe has advised Katie to be cautious.

He added: “There will be so much interest in her but I would advise her to get maybe three new sponsors.

“She shouldn’t overexpose herself.  Katie has been around for a while but this is a complete game changer.

“She had uniqueness and a real likeability. She’s humble, gracious, clean cut and immensely talented.

“What more would you want?”
