Gerry Gannon, a leading property developer, has lodged a planning application with Dublin City Council for an $84 million Islamic Cultural Centre including a large mosque at Clongriffin in north Dublin.
One of the largest development projects in its planning stages in Ireland, the 18,000sq m (195,000sq ft) facility will serve the 40,000 Muslims living in Dublin city, with a capacity to host 5,000 people at a time.
According to reports in the Irish Times, “a Dublin-based Muslim group with support from many parts of the world has agreed purchase terms for the six-acre site located close to the Gannon-funded Dart station.”
Previous reports in the Irish Times stated that the new development, “could put Ireland in a very favorable position in the Muslim world and lead to significant inward investment.”
The development will include the mosque and support facilities, including a 34-classroom school, conference centre, assembly hall, playground and swimming pool. It has been designed by Paula Gill of architects Conroy Crowe Kelly.

*****URGENT***** If you want to halt the encroachment of Islam on Irish culture and society, if you care for your eroding freedoms and rights, you must stop this mosque from being built. Islam mandates that no mosque may be built on land that has been soiled with pig remains. Spray Gerry Gannon's land with pics blood. If you are wondering why I am so vocal about this, it's not due to bigotry. I know that the mosque is the Islamic symbol of supremacy. The larger the mosque, the more important is its status. This an affront to Western culture.

Britain and France were colonial powers and the people living in these colonies regardless of their religious beliefs had the right of citizenship and now that these countries are part of the EU they now also have rights to settle in any European country.Enoch Powell may well have wrung his hands in consternation of uncontrolled migration. He was also an Imperialist who condoned "empire" and therefore an unwitting supporter of Migration. "Ye shall reap what you sow" Mr.Powell. He(Powell)was a racist and a supporter of orange bigotry.
misneac | Oct 07, 2012, 07:13 PM EDT
Seanomelb ,I can assure you that I have been in Ireland ,and furthermore do not want any fanatical Muslims in Ireland .You seem to have a problem if people speak direct truths and stop talking bullshit .My reference to Enoch Powell was in the context of him forseeing the consequence of uncontrolled immigration in to ENGLAND ,and how right he was ! Why listen to foolish "liberals " now ,and later try to correct the mistakes ?
staker42 | Oct 07, 2012, 01:06 PM EDT
Just read on my recent trip that a Castlebar councillor wants to reserve a special burial place for the Muslims in the local cemetery. Then I read that they are marching on Google Headquarters in Dublin to protest the right to free speech and now they want to build an $84million Muslim center in Dublin what's next Sharia law. Muslims are a cancer on our western way of life as reported in many of the Blogs see what is happening in France, Holland and many other European. Countries as well as certain cities in America , Australia , and Canada. Ireland has a chance to make a statement and stop this project.
Cherball | Oct 07, 2012, 11:29 AM EDT
"Stop IT NOW," the Irish are Israeli descendents you can't let them stay, they are worse then Vikings.
freefroggy | Oct 07, 2012, 04:05 AM EDT
Islam is a cancer-look at any country where Muslims have large numbers and you have a lot of trouble! Muslims are not happy in any of their middle east regions and then come to Europe and the west for a better life only to try and change it back to the same type of life they left! Don't give them an inch and punish any politician that caters to them! Your way of life is at stake!
Smyrnian | Oct 07, 2012, 02:03 AM EDT
Just wait. This is merely a 'toe hold'. Look to Holland and France and see what happened there.

Post pulled) canadianirish I never stated that "extremist elements pose no threat" I was referring to the other 299,982 Muslims but to be fair on re-reading your post I was a little harsh in my judgment and do apologise.
seanomelb | Oct 06, 2012, 06:42 PM EDT
I did not state that extremist elements should not be "dealt with". On re-reading your post I believe my retort was to harsh and unfair.
canadianirish | Oct 06, 2012, 02:59 PM EDT
@seanomelb - Nowhere did I intimate that 18 fools make a religion. Indeed in my third sentence I write: "While most seem to be peaceful, law abiding citizens, it is the extremist element that should concern you". Welcome to 2012 and the new normal. To suggest that these extremist elements pose no threat whatsoever is sheer folly. And as far as Melbourne being the most ethnically diverse city in the world, I beg to differ. You accuse me and others of engaging in "hate speech". I take issue with your accusation. I'm writing of MY experience as a Canadian living in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and will continue to condemn the actions of Muslim extremists. I stand by my post.
leahkinsella | Oct 06, 2012, 12:42 PM EDT
Muslims have no chance of getting Irish women to accept Sharia law because we're too independent and opionated and of course too goodlooking. We're too used to getting our own way. As I stated previously, the Department of Education needs to give permission for a school to open and Gerry Gannon and his friends are too broke. We have two mosques in Dublin already and it has not changed things.

The Fitzgeralds and the Geraldines, as well as the O'Neills and the O'Donnells, fought for religious freedom (not religious supremacy) in Ireland but this is "over the top"...they fought to defend cultural integrity...has Ireland's cultural integrity become "Who will invest?" and "How much...?"

(…more) There is much wakening up going on and still to be in be done in Saudi Arabia, apart from the fact that Islam is a false religion, in that before Islam was invented, Christians and Jews lived amicably side-by-side in that heat-scorched barren desert land. I am one of the proofs that Christianity is alive and well in Saudi Arabia.: I was one of many few who were privileged to have had Holy Communion with the Living Body of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist, delivered under guise of an anonymous brave Holy Communion deliverer’s passport of one (St. Joseph the) car painter (enjoy the joke, but true on the trade name and delivery of the Holy Host) to me, to my late wife, to my baptised children and not a few others of my Catholic friends in that country. I am quite sure that other Catholics and Christians in SA will be equally privileged to be looked after by the Bishop of Saudi Arabia (no, he doesn’t live in SA but he does, like Christ, look after his lambs, both of included-in or of out-lost flock, from far away). I thank God he does keep plugging away for us lambs, keeping our *ahem* spirits firmly on the upward belief, an undeafeatable task for all God-knockers.
jacersagain | Oct 05, 2012, 09:11 PM EDT
@ jamieLM Oct 05 05.38pmedt. I can’t agree w/ an important part of what you said. As far as I know, only the Arabs’ land of Saudi Arabia (SA), alone, does not allow any Christian Churches’ daily or weekly Christian celebrations of the Eucharist, under pain of jail, or exportation, or be-handing or be-heading. Neighbouring Arab Counties of SA, like the United Arab Emirates (UAE), including their emirates of Abu Dhabi and Dubai, other Arab countries like Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Turkey, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, lots of Muslim-orientated African and Asian and other countries with large Muslim populations like Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, India and even Pakistan, have Catholic and other Christian Churches where celebration of the sacrifice of the Eucharist is allowed, but hated, threatened and often violently, murderously attacked, for Christians living in their lands. (More…)
seanomelb | Oct 05, 2012, 08:08 PM EDT
I have never heard such a load of bile and hate speech on IC as I have read from the posters below it's absolutely terrifying trying to grasp your hate and bigotry.BTW canadianirish 18 fools do not make a religion and I believe Melbourne is the most ethnic diverse city in the world.I'm disappointed you would join in this chorus of hate.
jacersagain | Oct 05, 2012, 07:09 PM EDT
May I once again refer all readers of ICentral to the short but highly revealing demographic analysis available online to all? Copy and paste the following into your search bar… “Changing Demographics - How Muslims are growing and Islam is spreading”. >>> If you watch and listen to it (it runs for about 7 minutes of yr time) it won’t surprise any one of you, wherever you live. Funnily enough, today, I felt such a rage inside me about what’s going on while in a Dublin City shopping centre when I saw one these overwhelming Muslims and his daughter that I almost challenged him and her on the spot to go to the home where the beliefs they believe in are rampant. But, extraordinarily, the Holy Spirit of Christ the King quieted and stopped me and silently said “jacers, let Me handle this scourge; I’ve been scourged enough already to know”. Just pray to, be yourself and be with our Christ please; trust in Him who knows all, is all I’ll say. But like our Christ, sometime you'll feel prayers are sometimes not enough… Our Christ His Holy self showed that human trait when he raged at the falseness of those like Gannon, outside His Father's Temple. When the call comes for me to rage up again against all the falseness of Islam, I think I might be just ready to deliver. Others will, too.
jamieLM | Oct 05, 2012, 05:38 PM EDT
Hell will freeze over before any Islamic country allows Christians to build a church there, let alone in a capital city. I agree with the poster who spoke about Dearborn, MI. Muslims demand that Christians show tolerance and respect for them at every level when they move into non-Islamic countries, but they don't do that for Christians. Instead, Christians are persecuted and killed with no Muslim outrage. I think Catholics and Protestants had better quit wasting time with silly infighting and unite to defend and preserve their Christian faith. Christians, with their low birth rate, are going to be the minority in almost every country in the world in the future.

Rebelforce | Oct 05, 2012, 03:48 PM EDT
Ironic that Moslems are planning a $84 million mosque in Dublin but Irish-Catholics were never able to erect a full-fledged Catholic Cathedral or Basilica in the Irish capital. What a disgrace.
TayandCake | Oct 05, 2012, 03:44 PM EDT
They don't want to build the childrens' hospital but they want to build this yoke. Where the common sense. It could put Ireland in a very favorable position????????????? is this supposed to be a good thing. canadianirish | Oct 05, 2012, 10:59 AM EDT
@bogsidebunny - Canada has been described as the most tolerant country in the world and Toronto as the most multicultural city on the globe. Toronto and the GTA is home to 300,000 muslims. While most seem to be peacful, law abiding citizens, it is the extremist element that should concern you and your fellow Irishmen. In a 2006 terrorism plot Canadian counter terrorist forces arrested 18 Al Qaeda operatives known as the 'Toronto 18'. They were planning to detonate truck bombs, open fire in crowded areas of our city, storm the Canadian Broadcasting Centre, the Canadian parliament building in Ottawa, CSIS (our intelligence service) buildings in both Ottawa and Toronto, the parliamentary peace tower, and to take hostages and BEHEAD our Prime Minister and other leaders. Just up the street a few miles from me is a large mosque out of which one the 'Toronto 18' cells was operating. Ireland should most assuredly brace itself for impending attacks. Thanks to our crack intelligence and security forces working in conjunction with the CIA and MI5, they were able to thwart this attack on my beloved country. Ireland many not be so lucky. An earlier poster wrote that the paramilitary groups in N.I. should work together to thwart the extremist Muslim elements should they attack. He may be right. In the end, how do you fight terrorism?....with terrorists? Perhaps.

Why are they coming to Ireland when Irish Central tells us that so many young Irish are leaving due to lack of employment? Food for thought!!
BishopSean | Oct 05, 2012, 10:27 AM EDT
Ireland’s entrance into EU and exit from earlier splendid isolation is causing a crisis, such as has been happening in other more pluralistic societies elsewhere. First our people, having been enticed with supposed freedoms of secular humanism, let go of not only excesses and abuses of clericalism; they question their Christian heritage. Easy to do if one only knew cultural Catholicism or Protestantism, rather than knowing Jesus as one’s personal Lord and Saviour. Ireland, in keeping with Christian principles of freedom of expression, conscience and religion (or non-religion) now has Muslim communities and mosques—even though Islam does not allow for these freedoms. Challenge to Irish now is to know basis for their identity and beliefs—the person of Jesus Christ, and learn how to respectfully share Jesus and His truths with Muslims. Not easy, but possible and necessary. Out of this can grow more authentic, personalized Christian living.
bobduggins | Oct 05, 2012, 09:28 AM EDT
Why would you want to welcome the Muslims to Ireland. It is that a few people want to make a lot of money from this project? I suspect that is the reason. I guess they don't care about what Muslims are doing in the other countries around the world, such as GB, France Italy and the US. Be very careful of what you ask for.
bogsidebunny | Oct 05, 2012, 07:15 AM EDT
OK folks nothing is going to stop this project for TWO reasons: 1) Numerous Irish Christians are gonna make a load of money out of this deal. 2) The Irish love the Muslims and hate the Jews. Last count there were 50,000 Muslims in Ireland and growing by leaps and bounds. But the number of Jews is under 2,000 and falling fast. To all you "Irish-Americans" who find this incredulous you better brace youselves for an even more Islamic influence in Ireland. The Irish are a tollerant race. They've allowed the Travelling community of about 22,000 to rule, rob and scrounge welfare for years and there's barely a negative word uttered. The country is not your Grandmother's or Grandfather's birthplace. Greed and Ethnic naivety has brought this Greel island down and it's sinking further every day.

I don't care what part of the world you come from, you will find these low life’s trying to take over. And guess what? It is the Muslim money that is selling out every country. It’s going to be too late for you when they have done what they set out to do. I am sorry, but some of you people need to get your heads out of the sand and see what is really happening in this world. Here we are in an age where we have access to all the world right in front of us with computers and still we sit by blindly letting things like this happen. I don't hate anyone, but this Muslim culture is full of hate and violence. Ireland is a beautiful country and I am living here for last 7 years still getting to know the Irish ways and culture. But saying this I can reassure you that if this is built, there are going to be a he!! Of a lot more Muslims coming to Ireland. And from what I learned here in Ireland, is unless you are born in Ireland you are not Irish. wellll guess what? All those Muslims coming in and having their babies will make them Irish, so for all of you that tell the Americans to butt out, think hard about this, for it is hard for the Americans who have Irish roots to see it happening to their native land. For they are making their comments because they know what the Muslims have done to American soil, and other countries around the world. And once they are in there is no getting rid of them and look out Ireland because they are going to take over whether you like it or not. Remember the faith of Catholics and Christians .it will be gone. I am going to guess it is going to be taken away from you right before your eyes. God bless Ireland she is going to need it. And BTW when I am driving down the roads here in Ireland I love the shrines they have put up for the blessed mother and of Jesus. If these Muslims come into Ireland, you can be guaranteed they will make sure they are taken down. Let’s see how much fight the Irish have left for their country.

Welcome to Irelandistan. Freud considered religion to be a universal obsessional neurosis, including his very own cultural Hasidic (eastern European) Judaism. Orthodox Islam may qualify as a mass hysteria. If Ulster Presbyterians thought Roman Catholism was the devil incarnate, they're in for a rude awakening with its heir apparent, with Papa Razi succeeded by Ayatollah Khameni.

Add Australia to the list of Muslim conquests - Sydney had its first riot a couple of weeks ago. A police officer had his head badly cut and was knocked unconscious. A scarfed mother had her little child hold a sign calling for heads to be cut off. Yes, really lovely people alright. This spread around the world is an invasion with the intent to take over by stealth. How nice of Gannon to assist towards the destruction of Ireland and the beautiful Irish ways. The liberal lispers will say 'they are not all like that, we know some really nice Muslims'. Yes folks, they put on a good front with some educated representatives but we have all seen the mob mentality and the viciousness around the world, even towards each other and their women. Don't forget, they indoctrinate their children to hate. If that plan is allowed to go ahead (sell Ireland's soul) Ireland will never be the same again. Shame on all involved from the builders to the ignorant authorities.

The Trojan Horse has entered Eire. Demands for special rights for Islam and Sharia will not be far behind. And God forbid someone is perceived to insult the prophet Muhammad, chaos will reign. Be prepared Ireland, Islam is a totalitarian ideology wrapped in a Religion. It is not compatible with democracy. It will remain obscure until sufficient numbers are attained either through immigration or high birth rates, then it will assert itself and ireland will be changed forever. Take a lesson from France, Germany, Netherlands...

St. Patrick drove the snakes out of Ireland we all know. Nevertheless, it is obvious that they are gradually returning. Edna Kenny is a socialist and his "little buddy" Gerry is a Marxist. This makes for a rousing future in the "green isle". Just wait until 10.12 when the German National team comes into Dublin and sends the fans to the pubs to drown their sorrows. That will be a real tragedy. The Muslims taking over Ireland is nothing in comparison.
misneac | Oct 04, 2012, 02:12 PM EDT
Kenny and his Government want to shut down Catholic schools (like they did the Vatican embassy ),so no doubt Rory Quinn will have discussed in detail the teaching of religion in the Islamic Centre to ensure that their traditions are respected without any interference from the State !Ireland is now a multicultural society (that means that every gobshite who comes in to the country can not be queried or in any way embarassed by our traditions , such as a crib in a public place at Christmas ), or so we are told by the media . I can see future generations having to deal with major social unrest ,all because we do not have people at this time who are prepared to stand up in support of the traditions of our nation !

The muslims will turn beautiful Ireland into a third world country. I've already watched this happen to the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn, New York. Muslims took over a portion of the neighborhood and it looks like crap. I agree with you Micky74007, the muslims will turn Ireland into Iran. Plus muslims are always talking about how much they hate the western world so why do they want to move into it? Their plan is to make like the countries they come from. Everywhere they go that is their plan. And where is all the money coming from to do this? I keep hearing that ireland's economy is like the USA. They're broke. So tell me who's paying for this? They wanted to build a mosque right near ground zero here also. Why do people sit back and let these things happe? Political correctness is bringing us down.

They still openly treat Women as second class & take no issue with forcibly keeping them in ''their place''. I see this as similar to giving Devil worshippers a place to go, but then again I see all religions as being nothing more than words on a Book written by man & change & depicted by man over the decades.

Well Ireland is very ripe now for a new religion to take over with everyone turning away from the Catholic Church
