So it's 'racist' to say that a name like 'Kamal Ibrahim' is not Irish, in origin? (And no, holding an Irish passport alone does not make someone Irish. It means they're holding an Irish passport). I might ask, what kind of p.c. nutjob are YOU, dermot?

What kind of nut job racist is IrishAndProud? If the man holds an Irish passport,he's Irish. Be proud of all of Ireland's sons and daughters. Go on ye boy ye, Kamal! or is that too Norn Iron for ya?

Honesty is preferable to the idiotic political correctness that YOU display, conjoly. The man doesn't have an Irish name, or looks...and if you cannot be honest about that, you cannot be honest about anything.

The Vikings came. As did the Spanish Armada. As do folk from wherever at any kiosk at the airport in Ireland. I celebrate this man's accomplishment and proud of him. Slainte.

If any one has had a chance to visit Ireland in the last few years they would find a much more diverse population, especially in the major cities. I really don't know what is so surprising about this.

Additionally, Conjoly, your so-called 'progressivism' about puts YOU on par with ancient GREECE, since they were also considered a 'progressive' society...and look how they ended up. The only point I made was that most folks would not associate a muslim mid-eastern name (or looks)with someone from Ireland, so realize you're indicting much of the world, with your condescention.

I'm already ahead of you, conjoly...I'm in the 21st. Besides, name a single thing I said that was untrue.

I disagree too.
IrishAndProud, move out of the 19th Century (if you can).

I disagree with you. I bet he is as proud to be Irish as I am and you too! I will bet that Ireland is proud of him too!

Well Emeraldeyes...if someone off the street heard the name 'Kamal Ibrahim,' and/or saw a picture of him -- sorry, Ireland would probably be one of the last nations on earth that comes to mind...even for you. That's probably what's making a lot of people even read this article in the first place -- a totally non-Irish looking guy, winning that title (and it almost certainly was a factor in why he 'won;' the judges wanted to be 'inclusive' and p.c.).

That is one of the most racist and cruel comments I have ever heard. Shame on you Sandylee!!

With those looks and name; he isn't a true Irishman! Oh well, everything is messed up everywhere isn't!

Well it's great to see that the face of Ireland isn't a red headed freckled red cheeked whiskey nosed pale scrawny bucko!
