The Irish government has confirmed it is to introduce tough new laws on prostitution in the coming months.
Justice Minister Alan Shatter has announced plans to review Ireland’s antiquated laws on prostitution.
Over 60 organisations, including the Immigrant Council of Ireland, have called on Minister Shatter to change the law so that the buyer of sex will be criminalised.
The concerned groups believe that a change in the laws will help stop the abuse and trafficking of women and girls.
In a statement Denise Charlton, the chief executive of Immigrant Council of Ireland, said groups are being invited by government to make their recommendations in early December.
She said: “Members of Turn off the Red Light, academics and various others have been invited to present their considerations to the committee.
“We’re hopeful then the committee will report back to the Minister for Justice in the New Year and take the recommendation.
“We’re really hopeful and encouraged that there will be new legislation drafted as early as possible in the New Year.”

Prohibition is the water of mafia fish and it is better to avoid it where it is possible as the paying sex among adult and consentient people. Moreover politics must pay attention to votes, because the prostitutes'clients are not in a little number. The only resolution is to legalize and tax prostitution. Dear Irishes, do not be do not complain if you pay so many taxes, because your State does not want to tax prostitution!

In addition to new prostitution laws, the Dáil crowd should also enact and enforce in order to prevent human trafficking of females for prosrtitution. But the oldest profession will continue in spite of the strictest laws as long as men are naturally attracted to women and vice versa. As they say in France: "Vive la differebce".

No bigger brothel than the Oireachtas itself. With SIPTU and the ICTU taking turns to play the piano. I look forward to the prosecution of various Irish kleptocrats for offering financial reward to TDs, Senators and Ministers for putting their arses in the air.
