Cecelia Ahern's wedding dress causes controversy among Irish designers

Cecelia Ahern's wedding dress sparks controversy.

When bestselling ‘P.S. I Love You’ author Cecelia Ahern got married to long-time love David Keoghan in a secret ceremony on June 11, she walked down the aisle in an Oscar de la Renta wedding dress.

This dress choice by the daughter of former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has sparked criticism from some Irish designers. At a time when Ireland is suffering from an economic recession, many feel the wealthy writer could have given something back to the Irish fashion industry.

"I am actually sickened over this," Irish designer Jen Kelly told Sunday Independent writer Barry Egan. "Her father is the former Taoiseach. So why is she not supporting the Irish fashion industry? Why is she not supporting Irish trade? The country is in deep sh** and she is buying her wedding dress from an American designer? It would have been an opportune time to fly the flag for Irish design. Is she not proud of her Irishness?"

Not everyone agrees.

Irish designer Paul Costelloe said, "People are free to wear what they want. Nationalism doesn't come into fashion. Good luck to her. I'm sure she looked beautiful in Oscar de la Renta. She is a great little writer. She doesn't have to bow down to the Irish fashion media.”

Frankly Scarlett or Cecelia.....I really don't give a damn!
I;m sure that, if you check very, very closely, you will find that de La Renta has Irish roots. If Ali, Obama and Michelle can claim Irish ancestry, whay can't he... why can't everybody?... do the same?
Message to Irish Designers. ---- What do you expect from those born of a traitor?
