Bono, lead singer with Irish supergroup U2, recorded a special version of the bands signature song 'With Or Without You' as a tribute to Irish radio host Gerry Ryan, who was buried Thursday.

In the recording Bono wished the radio presenter well as the song filled the Saint John the Baptist Church in Clontarf, a church with strong connections to Gerry Ryan's family.

Ryan was baptised and married there. His children were also christened there and his parents' funerals were conducted at the church.

The Irish presenter made his final journey from his family home in the Dublin suburbs where his estranged wife and five children live.

Also among the mourners was Irish President Mary McAleese, a friend of Ryan's who lectured him at Trinity College.

Ryan was found dead on Friday on his bedroom floor in his Dublin flat by his girlfriend, Melanie Verwoerd.

The gesture makes me think of another U2 lyric 'and you give yourself away, and you give, and you give...'. It's no wonder the band remains so popular. It's not just their music that's beautiful.
Good for them. That's a real mark of respect.
