The Irish American Football Association in Dublin, Ireland has sued the Navy for non payment of funds arising out of the Notre Dame/Navy game in Dublin last September.

The IAFA, which is the sporting body that controls American football in Ireland, says that it had a signed agreement in October 2010 to promote the game on behalf of Navy who were the home team for the fixture.

After signing a top public relations firm in Ireland however, they claim Navy no longer deemed it necessary to work with IAFA.

The IAFA say they have a promise of $100,000 in funds from Navy which was never delivered. They claim much of that money was earmarked for development of the sport in Ireland.

The papers have been lodged in the High Court in Ireland but have not been served on Navy yet.
IAFA president Cillian Smith is also alleging interference by the Irish Sports Council headed by former Olympic silver medalist John Treacy.

Phoenix Magazine reports that Treacy made some interventions on the issue after discussing the issue with the PR firm, Fleishmann Hillard, and that IAFA were very upset by his approach.

The game itself was a rollcking success with up to 30,000 Irish Americans showing up.
