Mark Kerrigan, brother of former U.S. Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan, has been charged with assault after a fight with his father over a telephone resulted in Daniel Kerrigan suffering a fatal cardiac arrest.

The two were having an argument over a telephone when the father collapsed, reports the Boston Herald, and son Mark was said to have though his father was pretending to be ill.

“My husband had a massive heart attack,” Daniel Kerrigan’s wife Brenda told the Boston Herald. “This is a very difficult time for me.

“My God. He had a heart attack. That’s what it was,” added Brenda, before the details of her son’s arrest were disclosed.

Mark Kerrigan has been charged with assault and battery on a person over 60 and is due to be arraigned at Woburn Court Monday.

The police report states that Mark Kerrigan had to be restrained using pepper spray and seemed under the influence.

Daniel Kerrigan was found unresponsive at his home in Stoneham 1.30a.m. Sunday and transported to Winchester Hospital.
