Michelle and Barack Obama welcomed by the crowds on their first visit to his ancestral home of Moneygall. Michelle and daughters will return to the village when Obama attends the G8 conference in Fermanagh.

Michelle Obama has been promised another Cead Mile Failte when she returns to the Offaly village of Moneygall next month.

The First Lady is to bring her daughters Malia and Sasha to their father’s ancestral homeland when he attends the G8 conference in Fermanagh.

The President’s Irish cousin Henry Healy has promised the Obamas a royal reception ahead of their overnight visit.

Healy told the Evening Herald newspaper: “The village of Moneygall will welcome the First Lady and her daughters if they visit.

“The village will be ready and waiting.”

Healy, a distant cousin of Barack Obama, has been a frequent visitor to the White House in recent years.

He also led the delegation who welcomed the President to the village in May 2011.

Moneygall is the birthplace of the president’s ancestor Falmouth Kearney.

Healy added: “On the visit here to Moneygall, most of my time was spent with the First Lady, especially in the bar. I find her very personable, down to earth and ordinary, regular person, easy to talk to. She is very pleasant and friendly.

“Hopefully, we’ll get to see the same bubbly personality on the streets of Moneygall in the coming weeks.

“Obviously, our village has done quite well from the first visit and we have tour buses nearly every morning pulling into the village, going to the ancestral home, visiting the bar and cafe.”

Ireland’s Prime Minister Enda Kenny issued a ‘standing invitation’ to the Obamas to return to Ireland when he met with the President at the White House in March.
