One of Ireland’s biggest Catholic dioceses has gone online – and urged parishioners to maintain human contact with their neighbours.

The Limerick diocese has just launched its new website at www.limerickdiocese.org but insists the faithful need to maintain ‘offline’ connections.

Launching the new site, diocesan administrator Fr Tony Mullins appealed to his flock not to lose touch with reality.

Fr Mullins said: “Our new site is a shop window for all but it is also time for people to connect offline and in person.

“The virtual world is a vital tool for sharing of information in our broad community, but true community will not be found within the confines of the virtual world itself.

“We all benefit from prudent use of the internet, but it will never do for us what a friendly smile, an offer of support, a simple visit will do for a person in need.

“So, as we celebrate the new website, let’s reconnect with one of the oldest values of our church and, indeed, Irishness - the value of community.”
