Two rescue dogs named Sophie and George will “tie the knot” in Co Cork on Tuesday.

Sophie is a six-year-old Bull Mastiff, while George is a two-year-old French Mastiff who has a touch of arthritis.

The bride will wear a white dog coat with lace frills and a simple bow and the groom will don a fitted cream waistcoat and dickie bow.

The Examiner.ie reports that: “It is not known yet if the groom will be invited to kiss the slobbering bride after the ceremony, or simply lick her wrinkled face."

The “wedding” has been organized by The Cork Dog Action Welfare Group (DAWG) to raise much-needed funds for its move from the town of Doneraile to their new premises in mid-Cork.

Said DAWG volunteer Trish Gravina: "This will not be a circus. It will be a very short and simple event. It’s about raising money for the charity."

She added that Sophie and George are great friends and lived together before “marriage.”

The “wedding” will be held at The Pantry restaurant’s courtyard in Midleton between 11am and noon on Tuesday.

Guests are not allowed to bring their dogs to the ceremony.
