Rory McIlroy began the New Year with a proposal for girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki, and wants to end it with two Major titles in the bag.
The former world number one popped the question on New Year’s Eve, with some media outlets reporting that the engagement ring cost over $150,000.
McIlroy’s happiness off the course has mirrored his return to the winner’s enclosure on it after victory in the Australian Open in December ended a 12 month title drought.
After securing five tournament victories in 2012, the 24-year-old Ulsterman suffering something of a drought in 2013 but he is ready to put that right this year after coming to terms with his new Nike equipment.
Speaking ahead of his return to action, McIlroy said, “I feel that my game is really coming back, going down to Australia and winning.
“Beating world number two Adam Scott down there was really nice and while it doesn’t make up for the other weeks during the year, it gives me some momentum for 2014.
“I won a major in 2011 and 2012 but not in 2013 so I’ll try to make up for that with two this year.”
The former U.S. Open and USPGA winner believes he is learning to handle the pressure of closing out tournaments again after his loss of form.
McIlroy added, “I’m so much better down the stretch and so much better under pressure than I used to be.
“If I give myself a chance in these tournaments I know I’ll have a great opportunity to win. I feel I am very close, I’m confident with my game and confident where it’s going.
“I didn’t have the greatest of seasons in 2013 but I feel like I’ll definitely make up for that in 2014.”
