It is dinner dance season in New York GAA circles. The New York Ladies honor Dessie Reilly as their guest on Saturday, November 30 in the Westchester Manor on Saw Mill River road in Yonkers.

Reilly, a native of Lavey, Co. Cavan was manager of the Cavan ladies football side on no less than nine occasions when they won the Sean Faherty Cup in New York. He also won all other honors here, including seven-a-side and Annie Kearney cups while patrolling the sidelines.

The Collette Horkan Memorial Award goes to Alison Kelly from Ratoath in Co. Meath. Allie, as she is known, was a brilliant footballer in New York playing for the Kerry/Donegal side from 2008 before injury cut her career short.  She is now a coach with the thriving Shannon Gaels club in Queens.

The New York Ladies Player of the Year is Tracey Ann McCullough from the Fermanagh club. A brilliant defender, she had a tremendous season as Ronan McGinley’s side went to the wire in the semifinal of the championship.

The young player of the year is Mairead Ruane who has represented both St. Brigid’s and St. Joseph’s at under age level and won a senior championship with Cavan this season.

For information on the dance contact Annemarie Kelly at 917-559-4066.

The Cavan football club will hold their 45th annual dance at Riccardo’s in Astoria on Saturday, December 7. Guests of honor this year are Aisling Doonan and Rory Dunne. Other players will also be honored.

Dance chair is Tom Cahill at 917-400-3167 for information.
