Mick O’Dwyer announces his retirement as Clare GAA Manager

The legendary Mick O’Dwyer has confirmed his retirement from management after Clare’s heavy defeat by 3-17 to 0-10 at home to Laois in the All-Ireland qualifiers on Saturday night.

The Kerry legend, now 77, says he will sort out a problem with his ankle over the summer and doesn’t see himself making a managerial return – although he refused to rule it out entirely.

“I took this on for one year only and that has ended now. It was a difficult way to finish up, but the lads did their best against a very good side. Don’t mind Mick O’Dwyer, I said I’d come here for 12 months and that was it. I made that statement from the very start,” he said.

“One never knows after that. I only gave a commitment to do it for a year. I have a bad ankle and a few things to do with the body. If I can get the body right you never know where I’d turn up!”
