Connacht can still qualify for the last eight of the Heineken Cup after Sunday’s 20-3 win over Italian side Zebre in Galway, but coach Pat Lam was more worried by his team’s failure to run up a bigger score.

Tries from Matt Healy and Robbie Henshaw were converted by European Cup debutant Jack Carty to keep Connacht’s hopes alive ahead of the trip to play Saracens in London this weekend.

Lam said, “I am happy with the win -- you don’t take wins lightly in European rugby -- but I am also pretty disappointed.

“The outcome is great because we got the win, but ultimately we were not clinical enough, and had so many opportunities right across the board that we didn’t take.

“We now have a big week ahead. Our cup form has been good, but that first game against Saracens in October still irks -- a case of what could have been.”
