In other boxing news, featherweight Patrick Hyland (27-1, 12 KOs) is back in training after a shoulder injury derailed a fight he was meant to have in early May for the NABA title.

Hyland, who is trained by Tracy Harris Patterson, was last in action on December 8 when he lost a unanimous decision to Javier Fortuna in a WBA interim title fight on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao/Juan Manuel Martinez fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The Marlboro-based Dubliner, who turns 30 in September, will be keen to get back into action soon to build on the decent effort he put in against Fortuna at the end of last year. "Hope to have news in the next week on a fight, hoping around next month," Hyland told the Irish Voice via text on Monday.
Meanwhile, lightweight Jamie Kavanagh has returned to the gym and hopes to be back in the ring in the coming weeks.

"The Nuisance,"14-0-1, 5 KOs, defeated Adolfo Landeros (22-31-2) by TKO at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California, on June 8 in his first fight with new trainer Joel Diaz after leaving the Wild Card Gym and parting with former mentor Freddie Roach. Kavanagh said before and after his fight with Landeros that Diaz was in a position to give more time to him help him develop as a fighter. Kavanagh told the Irish Voice this week that he has been sparring stable mates Diego Magdaleno and Omar Figueroa to help them for their upcoming fights.

Though Diaz is predominantly working with those two fighters right now, Kavanagh pointed out that the pair was still getting work done together. The Spanish speaking Dubliner hopes to confirm a date in the next week or so.
