Background: Aer is a 17-year-old indie pop soul artist from New York.

Tell us about your Irish heritage:

“My mother is from Connemara, Co. Galway, and my grandparents on my father’s side are from Kerry and Longford.”

When did you become interested in music?

“Music has been something I have felt a connection to my entire life. I can’t say there was a specific point where I became interested in it. It’s just something I’ve felt I always wanted to do.”

Who are your musical influences?

“There are too many to count, but I get a lot of inspiration from bands like Foster the People, the Black Keys, Portugal. the Man, and the xx.”

Tell us about your recent trip to Ireland.

“I don't get to see all my family over there very often, so I came to spend some time with them and try to build up a bit of a fan base here playing some gigs around Ireland.”

Tell us about your experience at the Worldwide Radio Summit.

“The radio summit was truly a brilliant experience. I met some amazing people and had a great time, and I learned so much.”

Do you think pop stars have a responsibility to be good role models to their fans?

“I believe that artists have a responsibility to stay true to themselves and what they individually believe in, and by doing that fans may follow their example and stay true to themselves.”

Do you think becoming famous is about being lucky or being talented?

“Anybody can be famous; there is no being lucky about it. It’s about finding a talent or something interesting you’re willing to share with the world, dedicating your time, putting the work into it, and not being afraid to take advantage of opportunities when they present themselves. They will present themselves if you are open to it and aware of when it is happening.”

What is your big dream, and where do you see yourself in 10 years?

“Wherever I happen to be in 10 years is where I hope to be in 10 years. I know that as long as I stay true to myself and what I want out of my career, and I keep taking advantage of opportunities, working towards my goals and keep sharing my music with the world, I have no doubt of the success I will encounter.”
