Olympic gold medalist Katie Taylor has threatened to go pro as she becomes disillusioned with a lack of opportunity as an amateur after the London games.

“It is a big decision to make and obviously I’d have to get a good contract as well.  We’ll see. My dad’s going to make a few enquiries over the next few months,” she said.

“There were a few offers before but I’m not sure, we’ll see what happens over the next few months.

“This year was a harder year for me with the European Union Championships being in a little tent, a really badly organized competition, and then with all these (broken) promises again about the WSB (World Series Boxing for Women), I’m definitely thinking about turning pro.

“They were saying that the WSB is going to come in and there’s been no push about it really at all. The head guards are coming off for the men but not for the women.

“I don’t understand why they’re not pushing the women’s boxing the same as the men’s boxing.”
