It was a good day for U2 at the office on Monday, as tickets for their upcoming tour, called “iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE,” sold out in multiple venues around the world, prompting the band to add additional shows.

"The sales for the iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE tour have been brilliant and we are working to satisfy the incredible demand,” Arthur Fogel, a top executive for the promotion company Live Nation said in a statement.

The tour, which will play 19 cities in the U.S., Canada and Europe, was designed to include back to back shows in each city it plays. “We are going to try to have a completely different feeling from night one to night two,” said Bono in a statement on Monday, “and have some fun playing with the idea of innocence and experience. More to be revealed!”

The band scheduled four shows in Madison Square Garden in New York on July 18 and 19, and the 22nd and 23rd. On Tuesday two extra dates were added on July 26 and 27. A similar scenario unfolded in Boston and Chicago and global cities like London.

Tickets for the extra July shows go on sale on Monday, December 15 at 10 a.m. from Ticketmaster.com. A full list of tour dates is available at www.u2.com.

One city not included on the list yet? U2’s Dublin hometown. Sources say that the band is planning on playing at least three nights at the 3Arena at the end of the tour next November.

Bono is still recovering in Dublin from a bicycle accident in Central Park last month that left him with multiple broken bones and injuries that required several hours of surgery.

“He’s back in Dublin right now and he basically can’t move for the next couple of months,” U2 guitarist The Edge told a Los Angeles radio station last week.

Also last week, U2’s new album Songs of Innocence was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. The nod was the band’s 46th Grammy nomination, setting a record for a group.

Songs of Innocence, according to Live Nation, has been streamed 81 million times and downloaded by 30 million fans.
