The Craic Festival, New York's premier Irish film and music event in the U.S. since 1999, is set to expand further into the heavily Irish Queens neighborhood of the Rockaways this year, where it will hold the first annual Rockaway Oyster and Music festival for one night only on September 19.

Presented by Stella Artois, the Irish bands scheduled to perform live at this year’s inaugural oyster night event include the Lost Tribe of Donegal, JahStix Band, the Narrowbacks and Brothers Yee (Members of the Bogmen).

Dedicated foodies might like to know that the Rockaway Oyster Festival will officially be part of NYOW (New York Oyster Week), so expect gourmet deliciousness from an Oyster raw bar run by Empire Oysters.

Oysters will be presented raw, on the half-shell by Master Mermmelier Kevin Joseph, the co-founder of New York Oyster Week and the OysterHood. This is an event hosted by the Craic Festival team, so expect terrific value, drinks promotions and superior food choices. The beer and oyster tent will be set up on the lot on 116th Street, from 2-7:30 p.m.

Festival producer Terence Mulligan told the Irish Voice, “Rockaway has a strong Irish connection with our Craic Fest over the years and it has really embraced this festival. It made sense to branch out here with an oyster and music festival that will put the Craic brand on another level now. Also we are working with the Harbor School and Billion Oyster Project to collect all the shells from the event to re-use for the reef.”

VIP tickets are already sold out for the event and only general admission tickets are now available for of $20 (that's $5 for beers and $10 for a half dozen oysters).

Bungalow bar in Rockaway will present other tempting food choices for those who are not into oysters. So get along and celebrate the last days of summer
