Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Enda Kenny vowed Tuesday evening to hold a vote on same-sex marriage in Ireland in the spring of 2015.

“We have not named a date yet,” he said in response to a question from Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams on the issue.

“There are a number of other legal issues that need to be dealt with, including elements of adoption which are necessary.”

Last year Kenny said that the Irish government would support the approval of gay marriage in a referendum.
