A 74-year-old Irish woman has been scammed out of $23,500 by two female con artists in the Bronx.

The elderly Irish woman, who did not wish to be identified, told 1010 WINS that on Wednesday 10th October two women approached her at 10am near East Tremont Avenue. They showed the woman a bag of money which they claimed they had found.

The scam artists offered to give the woman $50,000 if she gave them some money, as a “show of good faith.”

The victim gave them $23,500, her life savings.

She told the local radio station, “I was thinking what I would do with the money, not thinking of what they were doing to me.”

When the time came for her to get her money back the pair drove away in a grey four-door sedan.

The Irish woman said it felt like she had been hypnotized. She said she trusted the suspects as they were well-dressed and well-spoken. They both wore black dress jackets and black pants.

She said, “They looked respectful, they looked professional…. They should rot in jail.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit tips to the Crime Stoppers website or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
