The Irish nanny, Aisling McCarthy Brady, has pleaded not guilty to first degree murder in court in Boston for killing a one year old baby.

The 34-year-old, who is originally from Lavey, in County Cavan, is undocumented. Her lawyer has vowed to prove her innocence.
One-year-old Rehma Sabir, was found near death with horrific injuries in the care of McCarthy on January 14th. She died on her first birthday at Boston Children’s Hospital.
The prosecution, led by District Attorney Gerard T. Leone Jr.’s office, released a statement when her charges were changed. It read “The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and ruled that the cause of death is blunt force head injuries, and the manner of death is homicide and not accidental.’’
McCarthy Brady's defense team, led by Melinda Thompson, have argued that many of the injuries were previously inflicted and that McCarthy had not caused them. However the prosecution argue that the nanny and baby Sabir were alone when the injuries which caused the child's death occured.
The case is not expected to go to trial until next year. She is being held on a $500,000 bond since January 22.
The County Cavan native had 15 years experience working as a nanny. She had been working with the Sabir family for six months.
Originally from Lavey, in County Cavan, McCarthy Brady had been living in Quincy, Boston, since 2002. She was living and working undocumented in the United States having overstayed her 90-day visa waiver. She now faces deportations from the United States when she is released from state custody, according to the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.
