An Irishman has pleaded guilty to attempting to transport 600 images of child pornography, through Newark airport, in New Jersey, on an external hard drive.

Farrell Corrway (29), was in the United States on a travel visa. According to the Associate Press he was under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents in Buffalo, New York in 2010. They were made aware that he was attempting to leave the country.

Corrway was stopped by US Customs and Border Protection officers at Newark airport and later arrested.

US Attorney Paul J Fishman told CliffViewPilot.com Corrway was carrying the hard drive through security. The device contained images of prepubescent children and “portrayals of sadistic conduct or other depictions of violence to children.”

District Judge William J. Martini has set sentencing for 11th September this year.

The defendant will receive at least five years in federal prison under the plea bargain. He could also stand to pay $250,000 in fines.

Corrway had previously travelled to the United States under a visa program entitled the Irish Peace Process Cultural and Training Program. This allows Irish citizens from designated counties to “temporarily for training, for employment, and to experience coexistence and conflict resolution in a diverse society.” It allows participants to live and work in the United States for up to 24 months.
