Vincent Martin Crowe, a 32 year old Irish national, is accused of stabbing Kenny Meyler and has been charged with murder at Perth Magistrates Court in Australia.

Crowe had initially been charged with causing grievous bodily harm and was taken into custody on February 11. Detectives decided to upgrade the charge against Crowe to murder following the results on the post mortem on Meyler’s body.

Crowe was due to appear at the Perth Magistrates Court on February 25 and will appear in Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court next month for sentencing.

Wexford native Meyler, 21, died on February 17.  He had been stabbed in the neck with a large carving knife on the afternoon of February 10 in the Scarborough suburb of Perth. Following the attack, he was rushed to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital where he was in critical condition for a week.

Meyler’s mother and two other relatives flew from Ireland to Perth and were met by a family friend and police who took them to the hospital. It is believed that Meyler was going to return to Wexford in a couple of months. The 21 year old had been living in Perth for about two years.

Police crime statistics show that assaults have increased each year in Scarborough since 2010 and there were 136 assaults reported in Scarborough last year.
