Galway based fast food chain Supermac’s are planning to expand their restaurant chain in Australia. The growing number of Irish citizens living in Oz will feel a little closer to home knowing the fast food chain is soon coming.

Supermac’s owner Pat McDonagh told the Galway News, “There are more Irish people than ever applying for Australian visas. Hopefully we’ll be opening overseas over the next 12 months.”

Galway man McDonagh founded the chain in 1978 and today there are more than 100 outlets throughout the country, with a further four expected to open within the next 12 months.

“With the number of requests we have had from people who have been back, we see that there is a demand for it out there,” he added.

The Galway businessman says that it is simply a case of following the Irish community abroad and he sees great potential in the Australian market.
