So you thought the viral sensation of the year was Danish leader Helle Thorning Schmidt, flanked by David Cameron and Barack Obama, taking a ‘selfie’ during the memorial service for former South African president Nelson Mandela in Soweto?

Think again.

Ireland’s farmers have become a viral hit thanks to a competition to win a Christmas hamper in Ireland's national farming newspaper The Irish Farmers Journal. Even NBC has covered them here in the U.S.

The farmers who took part have taken the selfie trend to new heights. Farmers from all over Ireland submitted images in the hope of winning the Irish Farmers Journal hamper.

A panel of judges selected 10 of the best farm selfies and allowed the public to vote for their favorite. The photo with the most 'likes' won the hamper.

With almost 1,700 likes the proud winner of the hamper is P.J Ryan from Newport in County Tipperary. P.J posed in front of his herd, smoking his pipe with his thumbs-up.
