Relatives of Nazir “Dave” Hussain, the Irish citizen who was kidnapped and murdered while on a visit to his native Kashmir have claimed that the father of seven was “tortured” for hours before being killed.

The Wexford resident had traveled to the war-torn region to attend his son’s wedding in August. He was abducted in his home town of Chattroh by an armed gang on August 12, as he returned from a visit to his mother’s grave.

The family alleges that Hussain’s legs were broken, and he was beaten with weapons for three hours before being dumped back near his home. His son Nasir, who was to be married, told the Irish Independent that no bystanders would help his father as he lay dying on the ground.

Hussain was rushed to a Kashmiri hospital for treatment, but doctors were unable to save him. “He died in my arms,” said his son.

Hussain emigrated to Ireland in the early 1990s. He married an Irish woman named Trish Gorey and settled in Wexford.

The victim’s relatives fear that the perpetrators of the crime will escape prosecution. They have set up a Facbook page, “Justice for David” to in an effort to raise funds to pay for a legal investigation.

“All that we want for our dad is justice,” his daughter Caroline told reporters.
