Dee Murphy, 56, an Irish woman who travelled to Israel as part of the so-called 'flotilla' protest has been detained along with several other activists after disembarking from a plane at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion airport.

Murphy, who is originally from Cork but who now lives in Wales, flew to Israel with other activists from the Swansea area and planned to visit Palestinian families in the West Bank as part of the 'flotilla' protest.

Murphy is a founding member of an organization called the Swansea Palestine Community Link and according the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin, she had travelled to Israel on her Irish passport.

Ireland’s Ambassador to Israel Breifne O’Reilly met Murphy at a holding facility at the weekend where she and fellow political activists were reportedly refusing to sign deportation order forms. Murphy is expected to be deported within says however.

According to The Irish Times over 100 foreign activists have been detained as part of the 'flotilla' protest, which came about after a plan to breach Israel’s naval blockade of Gaza was halted by Greece. The Greek action prevented a flotilla of ships from sailing to the territory.
