The Huffington Post, “the most linked-to” blog on the Internet, is now open to any Irish bloggers who are willing to pitch an interesting idea for its new, Dublin-based UK version.
Currently, the Huffington Post attracts over 1.2 million UK readers, the Silicon Republic reported. The UK site will feature special, “premium ad formats, including the recently launched ‘Project Devil.’”
According to the Silicon Republic, a spokesman for the Post expressed that Irish Bloggers should e-mail HuffPostUK@Huffingtonpost.com with their blog ideas. Other expected Irish bloggers will include Diarmuid Davin, David McWilliams, Conrad Gallagher, Paul Noonan, and Peter McGuire, amongst others.

Aengus McClean, the head of AOL Global Operation Limited (AOL owns the Huffington Post) explained this decision to include Irish bloggers with, “much of The Huffington Post UK content will be of interest to Irish readers and the opinions and thoughts of the Irish will be represented...We will have Irish perspectives on topics ranging from music to food, and we’ll be delighted to welcome more Irish bloggers as contributors to The Huffington Post UK edition in the coming months.”
However, this won’t be the first time than an Irishman will be a featured blogger for the Huffington Post. IrishCentral’s founder, Niall O’Dowd, has had his own blog with the Post for almost a year. He’s written on topics such as immigration, the state of the Irish government, and American politics. Other Past bloggers have included President Barack Obama, Larry David, Neil Young, Hilary Clinton, Madonna, Robert F Kennedy, Jr, and many others, totalling to 9,000 bloggers.
Arianna Huffington, president and editor-in-chief of AOL Huffington Post Media Group, sums up the merge with, “we look forward to adding HuffPost UK to the mix...[and] becoming the spark for many interesting conversations.”
