Irish police are searching for two of Ireland’s dumbest criminals who left the keys to their getaway car and some of their cash on the floor of the building society they had robbed.
The incident took place in Finglas Village, in Dublin. The criminal masterminds burst through the door armed with a revolver and demanded cash. Once they had received the cash they made their way to the door. However, along the way they dropped some of the money and their keys.
It was only when they had left the premises that they realized they had dropped the keys. They fled the scene on foot.
When the police arrived they used the electronic key to locate the getaway car in a nearby car park. The police found equipment generally used for breaking into house in the car.
The car had been stolen during recent burglaries in the area.
A source told the Evening Herald. “You can imagine the panic when these guys got back to their getaway car only to find they couldn't get into it…There must have been a frantic search of pockets before they ran away on foot. This pair must be the dumbest criminals in town, they've left a trail of forensic evidence."
Despite the slip-up the pair ran away with €4,000 in cash.
The police are not following a definite line of enquiry. A police source told the Herald. “The car is now central to a wider investigation because it was stolen in a burglary when the key was taken from a house, and it is undergoing a technical examination at the moment.”
