Eleven-year-old Mick Kirwan is not long back from the World Championships, where he had a blast.

Kirwan, who started dancing when he was 4 says, "I love being on stage, it is freeing."

A minority in an also girl-dominated pursuit, Mick says, "It feels exclusive being one of the the only guys at the advanced levels," he smiles.

How do his baseball/football loving classmates feel about Irish Dance? "They think it's cool to watch, but they are too too scared to try it," he says!

Mick dances at this mother's school - The Greene Academy - which is based in San Jose.

His mother began dancing when she was 4, at the urging of her own Irish-born mother.

Greene is quite the achiever. "I stuck with it until I was about 16, I stopped when I went to law school, I got back into it when I was practicing law, I started a dance school, and now I do both," she says, all in one breath!

Greene has 125 students attending her school, and she is in town to support all of them.

However, we suspect she has one favorite dancer!
