What a pleasant change to read something positive and uplifting, and even better to see excellent supportive posts, so a hearty pat on the back to Nicgearailt, SeamusXXX, imuverin, and sirpete.

sirpeter: You should be ashamed of yourself for using he hate phrase "damn foreigners". You stupid creep. I'd urge that you be banned for this, but you have already established a long track record for abusive and vulgar language. You're a disgusting racist bigot.

Georgy...Nobody knows here on IrishCentral about the damn foreigners OK!! Ring somebody up and find out. If you haven't got an answer here in two years.Don't you think it's about time you shut up about it? Course I know you won't because you are suffering from some mental disorder.

You're alive..Warm...Enough to eat..Roof over your head..Happy kids.Alls Perfect!! Never define your life by a job. It only part of your life..Annoying part most of the time. Unemployment gives a person time to do what you want to do. Doing nothing is good too. It's that stupid conditioning that is instilled into us, that we must be doing something constructive all the time is the hard part. Enjoy the break..You're not going to do anything more worth while then raise kids anyway..My own saying...No one on their deathbed ever said..I should have spent more time at work ;))

If there are so few jobs in Ireland how come so many foreigners are immigrating? I've been asking that for two years and I still haven't got an answer. Whenever I go to Ireland I see countless foreigners working. But don't believe me--the government statistics office shows that thousands of foreigners arrive every month. The last time I arrived in Dublin an African guy boarded the Continental plane to welcome us, and there was another African, a woman, further on to tell us where to go for our bags. It was sad--they made no effort even to say Cead Mile Failte, we might as well have been landing in Kinshasha. It showed the contempt that Continental have for Irish culture. On the way home I was treated to Airport Security Polish style at Dublin Airport. A rude SOB he was, acted and looked like he had worked in a concentration camp. The check-in agent was more courteous, appeared to be filipino. I could go on and on and list the countless foreigners I came into contact with, all WORKING. I am coming around to the opinion that the Irish capitalist class gives preferential hiring treatment to foreigners, because they know they are docile and can be paid less. What other explanation is there? Or is someone going to tell me that the Irish consider themselves over qualified for boarding an arriving plane and saying Cead Mile Failte?

You do have the right attitude, you might like to look at E-Bay, you will see things on there that you could find in your local market. All e-bay is, is opening of a retail store in your home, just find the right products to sell.
Good luck

Mary, I salute and commend your spirit Keep d'ould flag flying. I know it cannot be easy but (I live in California) globally we're all in the same boat. Some better, some worse.
Remember if it doesn't kill us it'll make us much better people. I too have gone through massive down sizing and I have not worked in the corporate world for a year and a half but I've realized there are other opportunities. Yes, you may have to dig deep to find them. I now find I'm busier than ever, I run 3 small businesses and I've made the sacrifices but I feel more in control and happier. ....... Hang in there, you'll get through it with your positive attitude

well done..making smart moves all around...
if there is another person experiencing the same situation,it may help to look at the opportunity presented..
volunteering is a very good decision..whether it's at your childrens school, helping the elderly, visiting nursing homes...getting yourself out of a situation where you have time to think..become morose etc...you should recognise how important it is to avoid that..
you could be pleasantly surprised at how talented you can become..start a small garden..grow vegetables..just like your ancestors..be a positive thinker..
and above all..get smart about the people that are elected in Ireland..know what their job description is...and evaluate them..they are being paid by you and all the other trusting citizens of Ireland.
There should be a solemn vow by every citizen to be informed and NEVER EVER permit
you have the right to that...some very fine people fought and died for that right some years back
so harness that energy ..you have control of that...
