The Office of the Data Protection Commissioner is investigating an attack on the Fine Gael party’s website on Sunday. It is believed that the information on 4,000 people who contributed to the experimental interactive forum have been compromised.

Fine Gael has invited the public to post comments and suggestions and register their emails and phone numbers on the website. A group which calls itself ‘Anonymous’ took responsibility for the attack and forwarded the information from these 4,000 users to an Evening Herald Journalist.

The group has previously been associated with WikiLeaks and attacked on Visa, MasterCard and Amazon.

On Sunday evening the website was taken down and replaced with the message which read “nothing is safe, you put your faith in this political party and they take no measures to protect you.”

It continued “they offer you free speech yet they censor your voice. Wake up."
