Mark O’Mara, George Zimmerman’s defense lawyer in the case of Travyvon Martin’s murder case in Florida, has filed to have Judge Jessica Recksiedler  recuse herself from the case.

O’Mara filed paperwork on Monday requesting her removal due to a possible conflict of interest. The Irish American defense attorney said he was recommended to the case by Mark NeJame, a CNN legal analyst. NeJame is the law partner of Judge Recksieder’s husband.

NeJame’s firm turned down Zimmerman’s case when asked to represent him. They referred him to Mark O'Mara, who filed the recusal motion Monday. He is confident his request will be granted.

O’Mara said, “The way their rule is set up is once the presentation is made by verified motion, the court should grant it…She could have an inquiry if she wanted to. I don't think she will. I think she is going to go ahead and grant it, and move the case on to another judge."

Also on Monday, CNN, The Miami Herald, and USA Today petitioned to have the court reverse an order of sealing on the court records of Zimmerman’s prosecution. Prosecutors did not object when

Zimmerman’s attorneys asked Recksiedler to seal the records.

However, O’Mara told CNN that the records should remain sealed to prevent any further muddying of the waters or risk of identifying of the witnesses.

Zimmerman has been charged with second degree murder with relation to Trayvon Martin’s death in Sandford on 26th February.

The family of Trayvon Martin is planning a town hall meeting at Tampa’s Beulah Baptist Institutional Church on Thursday. They will be joined by the National Bar Association.
