The son of New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly has been accused of rape by a woman he met in October.

Greg Kelly, 43, co-host of “Good Day New York” on Fox News and one of the best known anchormen in New York is co-operating with authorities say police.

The case is being investigated by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office rather than police because of the position of Commissioner Kelly.

Greg Kelly has strongly denied the charges the Associated Press reported.

His lawyer, Andrew M. Lankler, released a statement on Wednesday evening.

“Mr. Kelly is aware that the New York County District Attorney’s office is conducting an investigation,” the statement said. “Mr. Kelly strenuously denies any wrongdoing of any kind, and is cooperating fully with the district attorney’s investigation. We know the district attorney’s investigation will prove Mr. Kelly’s innocence.”

The woman, said to be in her late 20s or early 30s, made the allegations on Tuesday at the 13th Precinct in New York even though the alleged incident occurred on October 8th.

The woman stated that she met Kelly on the street  on October 8th and they went for drinks at the South Street Seaport. Later they went back to the law office in lower Manhattan where she worked and the assault allegedly occurred there.

Her boyfriend picked her up later that night and stated that she was distraught and very emotional.
The New York Times reports that the couple kept in contact by phone and text after the incident.

The girl’s boyfriend later approached Commissioner Kelly at a public event and claimed that his son had ruined his girlfriend’s life.

Greg Kelly is a Marine Corps veteran who joined Fox News in 2002 and was their White House corespondent from 2006 to 2007.

Both Commissioner Kelly and his son are prominent and much respected figures in the Irish American community. Commissioner Kelly is a former Grand Marshal of the St.Patrick’s Day parade.
