The remains of a fifth victim of the "Craigslist Killer" have been discovered a half a mile from the Long Island Beach, New York, where the remains of four other sex workers were found.

The fifth victim is thought to be missing prostitute Shannan Gilbert who was just 24-years-old. Her body was discovered by police sniffer dogs.

Gilbert went missing in May 2010 in the Oak Beach area. She grew up in Jersey Cityand was a known prostitute.

It is believed that the murderer is using the popular classifieds website, Craigslist, to lure in his victims. It was already confirmed that the first four victims had advertised their services on the site. All five bodies were wrapped in burlap (a sack cloth),

Back in December Gilbert, the fifth victim to be found, was the primary focus of the hunt at Oak and Gilgo Beach.  The police continued to search for Gilbert after they found the remains of Amber Lynn Costello, Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy and Maureen Brainer-Barnes.

According toSuffolk County police Gilbert is the last prostitute in Suffolk County that has not been accounted for.

Joseph Brewer, a local businessman, had been questioned with relation to her murder as he was the last person to see her alive at his home in Oak Beach. He was cleared of the murder by the police.

The Suffolk County police have said that there are substantial similarities in how the first four woman were discovered however they declined to reveal their cause of death. They did reveal that the women were killed at a different location and dumped at the Long Island beach. They also said that the women had been dumped over several months. Their investigation and search continues.
