The FBI began digging for human remains at the former home owned by late mobster James “Jimmy The Gent”  Burke in Queens on Monday.

The Irish American mobster and Lucchese crime family associate was famously portrayed by Robert De Niro in the movie "Goodfellas”.

FBI Evidence Collection specialists and agents from the Organized Crime Division descended into the basement early Monday morning, armed with jackhammers and sledge hammers.

The Ozone Park is in the name of Catherine, the daughter of the late Burke, the mobster. It is understood the home is currently rented out to an elderly couple and their adult daughter.

The Daily News reports that the search — on 102nd Road in South Ozone Park - was halted when diggers struck a water main and flooded the basement.

J. Peter Donald, a FBI spokesman, said the agency is “doing a search for evidence in connection with an ongoing FBI investigation.”

One source told the newspaper the search is connected to a cold case dating back at least three decades.

Burke died of lung cancer in prison in 1996, two decades after authorities say he masterminded a nearly $6 million robbery heist at New York's Kennedy Airport.
