Prosecutors in the infamous James ‘Whitey’ Bulger murder trial have asked U.S. District Court Judge Denise Casper to allow victim impact statements from family members of all 19 people the mob boss was accused of killing, even though he was not convicted in every death.
Following an eight-week trial the 84-year-old former Winter Hill gang boss was convicted in August of racketeering charges, including 11 murders.
Prosecutor Brian Kelly said Tuesday in federal court that families of the victims wish to speak or submit written testimony at Bulger’s November sentencing hearing, the Boston Globe reports.
"I want to look him in the eye and tell him what he did to my family,'' said Steven Davis, whose sister was one of the murders Bulger was charged with committing. "If he's half a man he will look me in the eye that day."
Bulger’s attorney J.W. Carney Jr., said they the defence has not decided whether it will oppose the request.
Bulger will likely spend the rest of his natural life in prison having been found guilty, he is scheduled to be sentenced on November 13.
