Online crafts company Etsy are among six digital companies that are set to create up to 150 new jobs for Ireland, according to the Herald.

Etsy, along with six different US and European companies ranging across digital media, financial technology and pharmaceutical sectors, have planned 147 jobs in Dublin and Cork.

The tech company plans to establish their first base in Ireland and database company 10gen.com are also aiming to build an European HQ in Dublin, the Herald reports.
 
Richard Bruton, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation said: “If the companies root in Ireland, they will spread their growth here.”

According to Etsy, who are based in Brooklyn, New York, their mission is to empower people to change the way the global economy works, they believe that they are bringing heart to commerce and making the world more fair, more sustainable and more fun.

Etsy in particular has recorded a booming profit line in 2012 with sales rocketing by 70 per cent in one year, and the New York-based company said sales climbed from $525.6 million in 2011 to $895.1 million in 2012, the Herald has reported.

New buyers registered with the company's site increased by 83 per cent in 2012, with 10 million new members joining Etsy last year from over 200 countries.

Shoppers in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia and most of Europe made the most purchases.

Etsy added five new versions of its site translated into French, Dutch, British English, Italian and Spanish last year.
