When they subtitled their Spiderman show Turn Off The Dark, did Bono and Julie Taymor ever imagine it would get this dark?

$65 million dollars later things just seem to be getting very dark indeed over at the Spiderman on Broadway theatre.

Today we hear that Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark is getting a major script rewrite courtesy of Yale School of Drama grad Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

But hold that thought, a spokesman for the production would not confirm the news about Aguirre-Sacasa's appointment, telling the press: "We have no comment on that report."

Aguirre-Sacasa wrote Spider-Man comics for Marvel from 2006 to 2007, and has years of experience writing in the superhero genre. He is currently a main writer for the hit HBO series Big Love.

The $65 million Spider-man: Turn Off The Dark is scored by U2's Bono and The Edge and tickets have been selling briskly despite almost consistently poor reviews.

Opening night for the frequently delayed show is set for March 15.
