Robert Pattinson’s newest action film, ‘Cosmopolis’, took the grand prize for MTV’s Brawl contest. The competition pegs some of the most anticipated 2012 releases up against each other in a tournament and lets fans vote for their favorite.

MTV writes that Pattinson’s “fans came out in full” for the MTV Brawl vote. Not surprising, as Pattinson has some of the most dedicated fans in the business, with his role as vampire Edward Cullen in the ‘Twilight’ series to thank.

In fact, Pattinson’s ‘Cosmopolis’ beat out the upcoming final installment of the Twilight films ‘Twilight: Breaking Dawn, Part 2’ as well as ‘Bel Ami’, both of which Pattinson appears in, to win the MTV Brawl victory.

Pattinson’s fans’ dedication is even more admirable when one takes into account that the film ‘Cosmopolis’ has no official trailer out yet, and only a tentative release date for 2012.

Perhaps fans are anxious to see the studly Pattinson in a non-vampire role again? Last year, he played the lead role opposite Hollywood A-lister Reese Witherspoon in the film adaptation for ‘Water for Elephants.’ Pattinson won the Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Actor in a Drama for the film.

Other heavily anticipated films that ‘Cosmopolis’ beat out were ‘The Hunger Games,’ ‘Woman in Black,’ and ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’

Director of ‘Cosmopolis’ David Croneberg, who was reportedly ‘tickled’ by the MTV Brawl victory, had only nice things to say about having directed Pattinson.

“He's [Pattinson] terrific. He deserves the affection that the fans have for him. He's incredibly sweet, he's very funny, he's very bright and he's also very knowledgeable about cinema,” said Cronenberg.

Cronenberg went on to comment that the film probably won’t be ready until least fall of 2012.
