Cork native and Hollywood heavyhitter Cillian Murphy manages to remain endearingly modest in the company of such recent costars as Robert De Niro and Sigourney Weaver. Murphy, 36, worked with the acting vets on his latest project, ‘Red Lights.’

Speaking with The Irish Sun, Murphy said of his co-stars “I think actors like Robert De Niro and Sigourney Weaver, they must recognise the effect they have on an actor of my generation because they were so important to us and their movies were so important to us growing up.”

“They’re so generous,” he added. “I suppose you try and leave that stuff outside when you get on set. You try and do justice to the scene and the characters and make it as convincing as possible.”

“I’ve had great luck to work with some amazing actors over the years. You must just observe and learn from it.

Indeed, Murphy has been lucky to work on some highly critically acclaimed films in the past years, including ‘Inception,’ ‘Batman Begins,’ and ‘The Wind That Shakes the Barley.’ Through those films, he’s been exposed to likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale and Danny Boyle.

For the upcoming ‘Red Lights,’ Murphy joins Robert De Niro, Sigourney Weaver as well as Elizabeth Olsen and Joely Richardson. The film, a sci-fi thriller, Murphy plays a paranormal researcher who works with De Niro’s character, a blind psychic who claims to have supernatural powers.

Murphy reportedly spent a lot of time looking into the world of magic for the role. While he says he’s a skeptic of magic in real life, as a “curious” person he believes he has to “remain open” to the idea of it.

‘Red Lights’ is expected to hit theaters in the US on July 13.
