Irish superstar actor Michael Fassbender is reportedly in talks to with Natalie Portman in a low-budget western titled Jane Got a Gun.

According to IFTN the actor is about to sign on to the Lynne Ramsay directed film which is said to have a budget of $20 million.

Ramsay previously directed the critically acclaimed drama We Need to Talk About Kevin, on which the legendary County Armagh-born cinematographer Seamus McGarvey also worked.

Jane Got a Gun, written by Brian Duffield, debuted on last year’s Hollywood Black List for the Best Unproduced Screenplays.

The story reportedly sees Portman reach out to her ex-boyfriend (Fassbender) after she and her outlaw husband are left to die following a brutal attack on their farm.

Fassbender’s reps have not yet confirmed if Fassbender has signed up for the film but they have confirmed he has just wrapped filming on Steve McQueen’s Twelve Years a Slave, his follow up to Shame.

Fassbender is now filming The Counselor with director Ridley Scott, who he previously worked on with this summers Prometheus.

Production on The Counselor recently closed for a week due to the unexpected death of Scott’s brother, the Top Gun director Tony Scott.

Fassbender will be seen next in Twelve Years a Slave, which also features Irish actress Ruth Negga and is due for release in 2013.
