According to UK publication The Daily Express, Orlando Bloom is being strongly considered for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in the upcoming Batman-Superman crossover.

Ever since Welsh actor Christian Bale announced earlier in the month that he was giving up the Batman mantle, the internet has been abuzz with predictions on the next actor who will take up the role.

The Express says that a senior source at Warner Bros studio confirmed that Bloom is "odds-on to get the part, even before [their] first casting call."

The studio source says that Bloom "would be perfect to play off Henry [Cavill] and I think US audiences would be happy with two Brits as the joint male leads."

This first Justice League franchise film is not slated for release until 2017, but producers, whom include writer-director of the Dark Knight trilogy Chris Nolan, are anxious to cast the two principal roles as soon as they can.

However, before Bloom can officially don the mask and clamber into the Batmobile, he faces opposition from other talents such as Ryan Gosling, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Michael Fassbender.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt would make the most sense from a continuity standpoint, as he was set to inherit the cowl at the end of Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. However, a fan favorite pick to pick up the role is Kerry-born Michael Fassbender, who has polled well with comic book fans online.

As the Express demonstrates, if the role were to fall to Orlando Bloom, three of the biggest superhero franchise heros would be played by British actors. With Andrew Garfield as Spiderman and Henry Cavill as Superman, Bloom would round out a triumvirate of British born-superheroes.
