Some of the world’s biggest musical stars will descend on Belfast this weekend for the annual MTV European Television Music Awards.

The star-studded event will take place at Belfast’s Odyssey Arena this Sunday and will see performances from US stars Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars.

EMAs hostess and Justin Bieber’s girlfriend. Selena Gomez took to Twitter on Wednesday to tell fans she was preparing for her trip to Ireland.

“Packing for the MTVEMA. Are you ready Belfast? Tune in Sunday, November 6. Big surprise for you guys.”

While Katie Perry tweeted: “Can't wait to head back to Belfast."

The Belfast Telegraph reports sightings of Justin Bieber at the Fitzwilliam Hotel on Friday, as well as Bruno Mars. U.S. rockers Red Hot Chili Peppers were among one the first acts to jet into Belfast.

Lady Gaga is also expected to arrive soon and rumors are circulating that the New York pop icon has rented out a castle in the Republic of Ireland for her stay.

A spokeswoman for Belfast International Airport said many of celebrities were due to fly in on private planes on Saturday morning, ahead of afternoon rehearsals.

She said: “Obviously we are expecting traffic to be very busy over the weekend with both private jets and commercial flights coming in. There will be a welcome desk at the airport to greet VIPs and to organise their transport onwards to where they are staying.”

Last year the awards took place in Madrid and were hosted by Eva Longoria.
