Cillian Murphy is set to tread the boards in New York City this year in the critically acclaimed hit play “Misterman”. The play written by Enda Walsh is set to transfer to New York’s St Ann’s Warehouse later this year as part of Imagine Ireland, Culture Ireland’s year of Irish arts in America.

The original production of the play premiered at the Black Box Theatre as part of the 2011 Galway Arts Festival.

“Misterman” features Cillian Murphy star of “Inception”, “Breakfast on Pluto” and “The Wind that Shakes the Barley” and is written and directed by Enda Walsh (“Penelope”, “The Walworth Farce” and “Hunger”). This is the first time in 15 years, since “Disco Pigs” that this Irish pair has worked together.

With the help of a world-class creative team - the production is designed by Jamie Vartan, with lighting by Adam Silverman and features sound design by Gregory Clarke (Tony Award winner for Equus) as well as a specially-commissioned score by Donnacha Dennehy (Crash Ensemble) – and St Ann’s cavernous warehouse, Walsh and Murphy will conjure an electrifying vision of an entire town, heaven and hell, in a tour de force performance of epic proportions.

Produced by Landmark Productions and Galway Arts Festival, ‘Misterman’ enjoyed a sold-out run at the 2011 Galway Arts Festival and was unanimously praised:

The Guardian wrote, “Murphy is riveting … a bravura celebration of [Walsh’s] theatrical vision”, and the Sunday Independent agreed saying “Misterman is a marvelous achievement.”  The Irish Independent called the production “theatre at its most raw, most barbaric and most beautiful.”

‘Misterman’ will run for 21 performances at St Ann’s Warehouse and will be the fourth in a series of acclaimed works by Enda Walsh presented at the Brooklyn venue over the last three seasons: Druid’s The Walworth Farce, The New Electric Ballroom and Penelope, all supported by Culture Ireland.
