Born in New York but raised in Ireland, she was just crowned the New York Rose of Tralee.
“I currently work part time in the Tiffany and Co. flagship store in New York and in the Irish designer Orla Kiely's flagship store in SoHo. I also intern with renowned stylist Danielle Nachmani and the Orla Kiely wholesale executive.”
What does it mean to you to be the New York Rose of Tralee?
“Being chosen as the New York Rose of Tralee is an incredible honor. I believe that New York has for generations welcomed the Irish with open arms. It has allowed many Irish people and their families to enjoy great success while still remaining true to their Irish heritage. I am so unbelievably proud and excited to represent the Irish American community in New York and I hope to them all proud.”
What is the next stage of the competition?
“The next stage is the regional finals in Portlaoise in Ireland. For four days we visit the local area schools and sites and meet the people of Portlaoise. Interviews will take place throughout the week and there will be three selection nights.
“Roses will come from all over the world, and I look forward to meeting them and forming what I hope to be lifelong friendships. On the last day the Roses will find out who is chosen to continue to Tralee.”
You were born in New York but raised in Ireland. Why did you return to the U.S.?
“My parents moved back to New York a few years ago with my two younger sisters Rebecca, 13, and Aileen, 12. After receiving my BA in English and philosophy and then graduating with distinctions in fashion design and media makeup, I decided the only place to be was New York, the fashion capital of the world! I believe once you put yourself out there anything is possible, especially in New York.”
Tell us about your interest in music.
“From a young age I have always loved music. I taught myself guitar at 15 but rarely sang in public until I entered ‘Cavan's Got Talent’ when I was 18. It was such a boost to be one of the two finalists of this 10 week competition.
“From then I competed in Scor na nOg where I was a regional finalist, and now you cannot get me away from the microphone. I truly feel passionate about music. When I sing it takes me to another place no matter who is around me or where I am.
“I love all music but particularly Irish music. I think it is a vital part of our heritage as our history and stories of generations past, lie within our songs.”
Who is your favorite fashion designer?
“Alexander McQueen. The Alexander McQueen collections always merge art and fashion so perfectly together. His clothes are always inspiring and truly are masterpieces.”
